Meet Vinny Sparvoli
The road less traveled. The unexpected path. To stray away from traditional thinking requires a certain type of courage. It also requires vision to see what others can’t or, perhaps, what some refuse to.
At 15, Vinny Sparvoli was a sophomore in high school and came to a realization. He was looking backward at a strong track record of academic achievement, knowing that meant the expectation of college would lie ahead. The path was there, but Vinny couldn’t see the vision. He realized that the expected path was not for him, so he dared to go a different direction after high school.
Vinny had already been making music since age 12, and his passion for the artform was becoming undeniable. His ears started to turn simple sounds into melodies and transform vibrations into rhythms; and his eyes began to see a future that excited him, even if it meant taking any job he could to help support that vision.
Vinny’s first foray into the working world included serving in restaurants, where he learned how to deal with all types of customers. Though, unexpectedly, he doesn’t have very many “war stories” to share as most others in the restaurant world might. He attributes the surprisingly low number of angry patrons to sheer luck, but anyone who spends time with Vinny knows it’s no coincidence. He just has the right personality to work with people–friendly, flexible, yet self-assured in who he is and what he believes in.
The transition to becoming a DJ was as smooth as can be for someone already experienced in the music industry. Having produced and performed for many different crowds and industry veterans, Vinny has even ghost-written songs for notable artists who recognized his talent, but more importantly, saw his vision. Vinny’s gift in knowing what sounds good and what people want has made him beloved at Denon & Doyle and an absolute hit at any event. He compares his approach to DJing to that of designing a roller coaster. “You create excitement and energy in your sequencing,” Vinny explains, “and you can’t have everyone peak the entire time or stay too low for too long.”
Case in point. Imagine being given a music request list that was eclectic, obscure, and a little all over the place. Imagine your job was to, somehow, take that list from a crowd of all ages and backgrounds and create an epic dance party. If you’re the average DJ, you are either calling the night a lost cause or maybe even running for the hills. If you’re Vinny Sparvoli, you see puzzle pieces that you can bend and shape with the right mix of daring and delicate. You re-imagine the canvas so you can create color out of chaos. You see the twists and turns, the dives and the drops that make for an unforgettable roller coaster ride. You see the vision of the road less traveled. And then you make it happen.
